Manufactured Home Contractors

Volume Heat Pump contractors participating in the energy right ® Manufactured Home Program have helped the Tennessee Valley lead the nation in heat pump penetration and higher efficiencies in the new manufactured housing market. In 1996, less than 3 percent of new manufactured homes were sold in the valley with heat pumps. Today over 35,000 manufactured homes have gone through the energy right manufactured homes program, resulting largely from the implementation of the volume heat pump initiative in 1999.

Nationally, heat pumps in new manufactured homes represent less than 15 percent of the market. For the Tennessee Valley, heat pumps represent over 50 percent of the market. The Valley is also seeing higher system efficiencies. In 2005, 97 percent of heat pump installations in new manufactured homes were at (or above) the 12 SEER efficiency level which exceeded the industry minimum of 10 SEER. Only 13 SEER heat pumps will qualify for incentives to comply with new industry efficiency standards.

Program Benefits

The Volume Heat Pump (VHP) initiative allows TVA, Power Distributors, and VHP contractors to buy down the cost of heat pump installations for manufactured homes no older than six years. VHP contractors can pass the savings to manufactured home dealers. Manufactured home dealers pass on the savings to the customers who purchased quality, high efficient heat pumps at reduced prices.  Additionally, the customers save money on their utility bills every month they are in the home.

Volume Heat Pump Contractor Qualifications

Volume Heat Pump Contractors must install a minimum of 250 HVAC units for manufactured homes each year. VHP Contractors must agree to install 13 SEER heat pumps in accordance with equipment manufacturer’s guidelines to qualify for TVA incentives. Contractors must service manufactured homes that are located in TVA service territories offering the energy right Manufactured Home Program. To find out more about qualifying for the program, please contact program manger, Terry McIntosh, (423) 876-4167.
